Communication Sent = Message Received?

Your way of saying things may be getting in the way of what you want to say…

A recent Harris Poll finds that 4 out of 5 Americans consider themselves to be good spellers.  The study also found that when it comes to social media in particular, 65 percent of adult Americans are bothered by misspellings and improper usage of the English language.

Interestingly, the 18-34 Millennials are the most troubled by grammatical and spelling errors, at 74% of those surveyed.

Don’t let your words detract from your message- use a spelling and grammar checker

Many word processing programs, text apps, email and social apps have this ability embedded in them.  Make sure that you have enabled these checkers.

Here are some of the common usages and misspellings we see:

  • to – too – two                      their – there – they’re
  • your – you’re                      through – though
  • bye – by – buy                     definitely – defiantly
  • freind – friend                    supposably – supposedly
  • irregardless (it is a word, but stick with “regardless”)

What are some of your least favorite (or favorite!) grammar and spelling mistakes you’ve seen?
